Psoriasis and flu season

People with psoriasis who are taking medications that suppress the immune system should only take inactivated vaccines for both seasonal and H1N1 (swine flu) influenzas. Attenuated vaccines can be live and therefore should not be taken by people who take immunosuppressants, including biologic (Amevive, Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, Simponi or Stelara) or non-biologic (cyclosporine-Neoral or methotrexate) drugs. Visit the NPF website for more information.

The first Multidisciplinary Psoriasis Clinic opened at the Bolwell Health Center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center on Wednesday, April 25, 2007.

Bolwell Health Center, University Hospitals Case Medical Center Patients who are seen in the Multidisciplinary Clinic will have access to all members of the multidisciplinary team, which include dermatology, rheumatology, psychiatry, and nutrition services. Members of the team will have the opportunity to see each patient, and then collaborate with one another to develop a treatment plan that will treat the patient as a whole, and not just focus solely on the skin.

Multidisciplinary Team Description:
Dermatology For patients seeking expert and up-to-date treatment for their psoriasis
Rheumatology For patients suffering from psoriasis-related joint disease
Psychiatry For patients and their families seeking emotional support from the effects of psoriasis
Nutrition Services For patients seeking assessment and advice on nutritional changes that could aid in the treatment of psoriasis and overall general health

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, please contact Kimberly Sanders at 216-844-7394.
